Hanover wins series against Wabash in walk-off fashion on Senior Day

Hanover (6-7 overall) celebrated Senior Day on Sunday afternoon as part of their weekend series with the Little Giants of Wabash, taking game one in walk-off fashion 7-6 before

 

Prior to the doubleheader, Hanover recognized the 143rd senior class of Panther Baseball - Matthew Alter (Indianapolis, Ind.), Jacob Dupps (Louisville, Ky.), Le'Ron Fleming (Indianapolis, Ind.), Charlie Joyce (Indianapolis, Ind.), Spencer Martinelle (Indianapolis, Ind.), and Cole Sherman (Indianapolis, Ind.).

 

GAME ONE

Junior Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) got the place rocking connecting for his second moon shot to left field of the series in the bottom of the first inning giving HC the 1-0 lead.

 

Wabash responded in the next half inning using a two run homerun to flip the script 2-1.

 

The top of the third inning saw Wabash connect for their second homerun of the afternoon clearing the center field fence pushing the lead to 4-1.

 

The offense remained hot for the Little Giants as they plated another run in the top of the fifth inning before the Blue and Red responded.

 

Junior Eric Roudebush (New Palestine, Ind.) provided the clutch two out hit with a two RBI single to right center pulling Hanover within 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jacob Dupps continued the rally as he followed it up with a two RBI single to opposite field knotting the contest.

 

In the bottom of the ninth inning, sophomore Jake Danneman called game as he rocked a two run homer to right field walking-off the 7-6 victory for the Panthers.

 

Junior Marcus Goodpaster (Indianapolis, Ind.) got the start on the bump throwing seven complete innings scattering seven hits with four K's.

 

GAME TWO

Wabash added the first run of the nightcap following a Panther hiccup in the top of the first inning, 1-0.

 

However, Christie picked up his fifth homerun of the 2023 season in the next half inning to push HC on top 2-1.

 

Wabash remained poise continuing to put the ball in play forcing a series of Panther mishaps in the top of the fifth inning for the 5-2 lead.

 

Hanover would load the bases in the bottom half of the inning with two outs but were unable to push a run across as the Wabash left fielder made a diving catch leaving three runners stranded.

 

The Panthers got another shot at the comeback in the bottom of the eighth inning with senior Spencer Martinelle providing the clutch RBI through the right side scoring sophomore Andrew Oesterling (Batesville, Ind.) and Dupps cutting the difference to 5-4.

 

The bottom of the ninth saw Danneman reach on a hard hit ball to third base advancing to second on a Roudebush hit by pitch. With two outs, sophomore Grady Stickney (Cincinnati, ohio) looked to complete the comeback but was unable to push the run across as Wabash claimed the nightcap 5-4.
